Thousands of buildings have collapsed in eastern Turkey and neighbouring Syria after an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 and multiple aftershocks struck. Rescuers are racing to rescue survivors. Rescue teams have been dispatched from countries all over the world, but only a few emergency crews remained on the ground after the earthquake struck, with frigid temperatures and close to 200 aftershocks preventing them from searching through unstable structures.
